Edward Langford
Ed Langford was born in Bangor, Maine. He and his wife Susie settled in Falmouth, Maine where they raised their two daughters. Being from Maine, the influence of nature is a strong motivating factor in his work. In his paintings, he often uses familiar Maine scenes as springboards to leap from literal depiction to expanded compositions with broadened, flattened shapes and strong color. The subjects, though recognizable, are altered to become bold and geometric abstractions.
Since the 1970s, Ed has had exhibitions at various galleries and juried shows, including Frost Gully Gallery (Freeport, Maine), Hobe Sound Galleries (Portland, Maine and Hobe Sound, Florida), P.S. Galleries ( Ogunquit, Maine), Borghi Fine Art Gallery (New Jersey), Maine Biennial Show at the Portland Museum of Art (Juried), Maine Coast Artists (Juried, Rockport, Maine), Knickerbocker Artists - Salmagundi Club (Juried, New York City), 51st and 53rd Annual National Midyear Show at The Butler Institute of American Art (Juried), and more. Corporate collections include L.L. Bean, Pierce Atwood LLP, Nike, Inc., Cole – Haan, Country Kitchen Bakeries, UNUM, Peoples Heritage Bank (now TD Bank), Key Bank, among others.
